in reply to: Good Indian food in NYC?
Anjali Agarwal Participant September 7, 2025 at 10:13 pm

I’ve tried a few Indian places in NYC and some are good, but honestly nothing feels like the food back home. The other day I made a simple veg pulao with Laxmi Extra Long Basmati Rice and the smell itself reminded me of dinners in India. It was such a comfort meal after a long day.

What about you guys? Any spots in NYC that really give you that homely Indian taste?

I’ve tried a few places in Manhattan for samosas and some are good, but honestly nothing ever feels quite like the ones from back home. On days I don’t feel like hunting for a restaurant, I keep a pack of Laxmi Frozen Samosas from the Indian grocery store. They turn out crispy in the oven and go perfectly with a cup of chai.

I have been trying out different Basmati rice options since moving to the US and the one that has worked best for me is Laxmi Extra Long Basmati Rice. The grains turn out really long and separate after cooking, and the aroma makes pulao or biryani taste just like home. It has become my go-to choice whenever I cook rice dishes.

What has been your experience with Basmati rice in the US? Have you tried Laxmi Extra Long Basmati Rice?

Quick indian snack in NYC

Indian food in NYC is quite easy to find but some days I just feel like having something at home. I recently tried the Laxmi frozen samosas from the Indian store here and they came out really nice crispy on the outside and soft inside, after just a few minutes in the oven

They made a great evening snack with chai. I was wondering if anyone else here has tried them or found other frozen Indian snacks in NYC that taste good.
